Cape Lookout National Seashore is seeking qualified candidates for a 30- to 120-day detail as the park’s administrative officer. The detail will begin in November.

All en-route travel and salary costs will be covered and a one bedroom apartment will be provided during the work assignment, although no meals and incidental expenses will be authorized while staying in the park. Assignment dates and length of detail are negotiable. Supervisory approval is needed. This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to gain experience in supervision and program management in administration. The seashore is currently recruiting to fill the position permanently.

Cape Lookout encompasses about 29,000 acres, consisting of three barrier islands extending approximately 56 miles from Ocracoke Inlet to Beaufort Inlet. The islands are primitive, undeveloped barrier islands, only accessible by boat.  Park headquarters is located on Harkers Island, which can be accessed by vehicle. 

The seashore is located in eastern North Carolina.  Nearest communities for shopping, doctors, hospitals, and other services are Beaufort and Morehead City (30 minute drive).  Raleigh is approximately a 3.5 hour drive. The closest airport is New Bern, North Carolina, which offers a good selection of daily flights to Charlotte and Atlanta.
