DINOSAUR NATIONAL MONUMENT
GS-0025-11 Interpretive Operations Supervisor

[Printer-friendly text version]

Dinosaur NM has issued an announcement for an interpretive operations supervisor.

Click on the links below for copies of the all sources and status candidate announcements with full details on duties and procedures for applying:

Dinosaur National Monument is a 210,000-acre park with a variety of resources, complex issues and multifaceted operations. It has one of the most complete geologic records of any national parks and an internationally renowned display of Jurassic-era dinosaur bones and a significant Cretaceous-era dinosaur quarry.

But Dinosaur is much more than just dinosaur fossils. The rugged landscape includes diverse habitats that support a surprisingly diverse variety of plants and animals and also critical habitat for endangered species. Cultural resources (granaries, campsites, pit houses, rock art, artifacts, foundations, and cabins) span 11,000 years and constitute a lengthy record of the evolution of the prehistoric cultural diversity and historic settlement of the region. The rapids and magnificent scenery found in the canyons carved by the Green and Yampa rivers provide premier Western whitewater boating. The Yampa is the only remaining large tributary in the Colorado River system that retains its natural-flowing character. Dinosaur contains more than 186,000 acres of recommended wilderness and 4,000 acres as potential wilderness additions. Annual visitation ranges from 350,000 to 500,000 visitors per year. Please visit our website at www.nps.gov/dino for more information.

The duty station and office location for this position is at the new Quarry Visitor Center on the Utah side of the monument. The nearest community is Vernal, Utah, which is approximately 20 miles from the Quarry Visitor Center. Vernal includes multiple schools (grades kindergarten through twelfth grade) and a branch of Utah State University, a post office, restaurants, grocery stores, medical centers, shops, etc. There are many outdoor activities, including hiking, fishing, rock climbing, biking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing.  Salt Lake City, Utah, which has a major airport, cultural events, and several professional sports teams, is approximately three hours away. Park housing is not available.

For more information regarding this position, please contact Dan Johnson at (435) 781-7702.

The announcement closes on August 8th.
