The Office of Legislative and Congressional Affairs puts out weekly reports on hearings, new legislation and other activities on the Hill. This report covers the week ending on Friday, January 25th.

New Bills Introduced     

The following bills of interest to the NPS were introduced:

  • H.R. 318 (Hall, R-TX-4), to authorize a Wall of Remembrance as part of the Korean War Veterans Memorial and to allow certain private contributions to fund that Wall of Remembrance.
  • H. Res. 37 (Walberg, R-MI-7), recognizing the 200th anniversary of the Battles at the River Raisin and the significance of these battles during the War of 1812.
  • S. 23 (Levin, D-MI), a bill to designate as wilderness certain land and inland water within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in the State of Michigan, and for other purposes.
  • S. 37 (Tester, D-MT), a bill to sustain the economic development and recreational use of National Forest System land and other public land in the State of Montana, to add certain land to the National Wilderness Preservation System, to release certain wilderness study areas, to designate new areas for recreation, and for other purposes.
  • S. 60 (Boxer, D-CA), a bill to amend the National Trails System Act to provide for the study of the Western States Trail for potential designation as a national historic trail.
  • H.R. 358 (McCollum, D-MN-4), to direct the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, in coordination with the Army Corps of Engineers, the National Park Service, and the United States Geological Survey, to lead a multiagency effort to slow the spread of Asian Carp in the Upper Mississippi and Ohio River basins and tributaries, and for other purposes.
  • H.R. 382 (Foxx, R-NC-5), to provide for State approval of national monuments, and for other purposes.
  • H.R. 402 (Ryan, D-OH-13), to provide for the retention of the name of Mount McKinley.
  • H.R. 412 (Tsongas, D-MA-3), to amend the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act to designate segments of the main stem of the Nashua River and its tributaries in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for study for potential addition to the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System, and for other purposes.
  • S. 89 (Vitter, R-LA), a bill to amend the Migratory Bird Treaty Act to authorize hunting under certain circumstances.
  • S. 103 (Cardin, D-MD), a bill to authorize the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a special resource study of P.S. 103 in West Baltimore, Maryland, and for other purposes.
  • S. 104 (Vitter, R-LA), a bill to provide for congressional approval of national monuments and restricts on the use of national monuments.
  • S. 125 (Brown, D-OH), bill to direct the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, in coordination with the Army Corps of Engineers, the National Park Service, and the United States Geological Survey, to lead a multiagency effort to slow the spread of Asian carp in the Upper Mississippi and Ohio River basins and tributaries, and for other purposes.
