MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK
Passing Of Doug Chappell

[Printer-friendly text version]

Douglas S. Chappell, an engineering equipment operator at Mount Rainier National Park, died in a single car accident early on July 29th.

Doug worked at Mount Rainier on the road crew for over five years, plowing roads to Paradise through the winter and as part of spring opening operations.

Doug came from an NPS family – his mother, Rhea Gillispie, works in the natural and cultural resources division; his father Chuck Chappell, stepmother Diana Chappell and stepfather Lance Gillispie also worked at Mount Rainier during their careers.

Doug was very proud of his Marine Corps service.  He was a team member, took great pride in being an NPS employee and will be sorely missed by friends and family.

He is survived by his parents, two brothers, four nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.

Donations in Doug’s memory can be made to the Eatonville Youth Sports Association (EYSA) in care of Rhea Gillispie, 10409 Ohop Valley Ext. Rd. E., Eatonville, WA  98328.
