Description: Rustic Cabin, approximately 16'X 20'.

Facilities: Sleeps up to 6 people. Includes six wooden bunks, work counter, table with chairs, diesel oil stove (fuel is provided), fire extinguisher, informational bulletin board, and smoke detector. Has a pit toilet. Fresh water is available but must be treated. Not included: Running water, electricity, mattress or bedding, cooking utensils.

Location: This is the most remote of the four coastal cabins. Located on the easterly shore of North Arm in Nuka Bay (a 40 minute flight from Homer or 60 minutes from Seward.) Refer to USGS map, Seldovia C-2.

Terrain/Vegetation: Old growth spruce forest, dense forest undergrowth. Narrow steep-sided valley. North Arm Cabin affords a superb view of a spectacular 900 foot cataract (waterfall) tumbling off Storm Mountain across the bay. Cabin elevation is just above sea level.

Recreation: Kayaking, boating, solitude, and tidal pool exploration. Hiking is extremely limited beyond the tidal flats. Limited fishing is available within the salt water for halibut and rockfish, and along the beaches for pink (July) salmon. A boat is required for access to these fisheries. Review Alaska Department of Fish and Game fishing regulations.

Wildlife: Black and brown bear, bald eagles, sea birds and various marine mammals.

Specific Consideration: Flat beach exposes extensive tidal flats at low tide. Low tides make anchoring a boat difficult. This cabin is not equipped with a ramp; however, the short trek from the beach is relatively level and obstruction-free. All food must be kept secured in the cabin at all times. There is no hunting allowed in this area.

Reservations: Occupancy of North Arm cabin is by permit only ($50.00 per night) on a first-come, first- served basis. Reservations are accepted, beginning January 2nd, for May 22 - September 20, by phone, mail or in person at the Seward Visitor Center. Information and reservations may be obtained by calling (907) 224- 3175. The remoteness of this cabin, coupled with the expense of accessing it, allows extended stays up to a maximum of nine nights within the calendar year. Individuals in the same party are not allowed to make sequential reservations in order to exceed the nine night limit. Occupancy begins and ends at noon on the assigned days. To cancel, notification is required at least 10 days in advance of scheduled trip. NO CASH REFUNDS. Credit is given towards another cabin if reserved within the calendar year. No credit for cancellations with less than 10 days notice. Cabin users must have their permit while on site.

For Your Information:

  • All food and drinks must be kept secured in the cabin at all times. Black and brown bears frequent this area. Food storage violations could result in immediate termination of the cabin permit.

  • Campfires are permitted only on the beach below the storm tide line.

  • Tents may not be pitched around the cabin.

  • There is no hunting or trapping allowed in this area.
