There are many ways to support Appomattox Court House NHP. Some may chose to volunteer their time and become a Volunteer In Parks (VIP), or purchase items from the park's bookstore which generates funds for programs in the park. As of the spring of 2012 there is yet another way. Become a friend of the park by joining or contributing to the Appomattox 1865 Foundation. This recently formed Friends Group is an authorized partner of the park. On April 10, 1865 Generals Lee and Grant met a second time at Appomattox Court House, Virginia. At that second meeting General Lee requested that his men be given evidence that they were paroled prisoners - to protect them from arrest or harassment. 28,231 parole passes were issued to Confederates.
