The story of the Battle of South Mountain is a critical part of the Maryland Campaign of 1862. For the past five years the staff of South Mountain State Battlefield and Antietam National Battlefield have worked together informally to interpret the Campaign for visitors to both battlefields.

Park Day
Sharpsburg, Maryland—On Saturday, April 5, 2008, volunteers from around the country will team up with the Civil War Preservation Trust (CWPT) to help clean and restore America’s historic battlefields, cemeteries and shrines.  The nationwide effort—dubbed Park Day—will include nearly 80 historic sites in 24 states.
