141st Memorial Day Commemoration in Sharpsburg

The 141st Memorial Day Commemoration will be held in Sharpsburg, Maryland on May 24, 2008. One of the oldest Memorial Day traditions in the United States will continue in Sharpsburg on Saturday beginning with a wreath laying ceremony at the Town Hall at 11:00 AM, followed by the Annual Memorial Day Parade at 1:30 PM. The Grand Marshall for this year’s parade is Lt. Mike Toth of the U.S. Coast Guard-National Maritime Center.
Following the parade at 3:00 PM the commemoration at the Antietam National Cemetery will take place. The ceremony will consist of music presented by the Boonsboro High School Band and the presentation of colors by the 167th Airlift Wing, West Virginia Air National Guard Base Honor Guard. Remarks will be provided by Mayor Hal Spielman of Sharpsburg, along with representatives of the American Legion and Senator Benjamin Cardins office. Lt. Mike Toth of the US Coast Guard will serve as the keynote speaker for the ceremony. All are invited to attend this ceremony.
