  • Memorial Day Avenue of Flags and Headstone Flag Placement May 15- June 1, 2009

    From May 15, 2009, through June 1, 2009, the grounds of the Andersonville National Cemetery will be decorated with the Stars and Stripes in a tribute to those who have served our country and paid the ultimate price.

    The flags from both the Avenue of Flags and the Gravesite decorations will remain in place through Monday, June 1, 2009. The Andersonville National Cemetery is open every day, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. There is no charge to visit the National Cemetery or the adjoining prison stockade and National POW museum.

  • Echo Taps & Armed Forces Day May 16, 2009

    On Armed Forces Day, at 2:00pm the solemn call of Taps will be sounded at National Cemeteries across the United States and in Foreign Countries. This tribute to Veterans past and present is being called Echotaps and will be sounded by hundreds of civilian bugle and trumpet players across the country. Andersonville National Historic Site and Cemetery will participate in this observance.


  • Memorial Day Services
    May 24, 2009

    Gather for a time of rememberence and to honor the veterans gone before us, by paying respect and decorating the graves.

    Discovery Camp
    June 17-19, 2009

    Kids ages 8-13 will join together for 3 days to learn about the natural world we live in, including a tree planting, wilderness first aid, shelter building and plants and animal identification. Check out the flier for more information.

Did You Know?
The flight suit worn by Colonel (then Major) Rhonda Cornum (Gulf War POW) is on display in the National Prisoner of War Museum. Colonel Cornum was captured during an attempt to rescue downed pilot Captain Williams Andrews, who also became a POW.
