Are you between the ages of 15 and 18, looking for employment, and like to work outside? Here is a wonderful opportunity to join the Youth Conservation Corps (YCC). Andersonville National Historic Site is looking for young men and women, ages 15 through 18, who work, learn, and earn together on projects that further the development and conservation of the natural resources of the United States. Period of employment may be up to eight weeks beginning on June 6 through July 29, 2011. Rate of pay will be $7.25 per hour.

Applications are available beginning Monday, May 2, 2011 at the National Prisoner of War Museum from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applications are due Friday, May 20, 2011 and may be hand-delivered or mailed to:

Employees will be selected by drawing on Monday, May 23, 2011 at park headquarters.

The Youth Conservation Corps was established by Public Law 93-408 as a summer employment program with the following objectives:

  1. To accomplish needed conservation work on public lands
  2. To provide gainful employment for 15-through 18-year-old males and females of all social, economic, ethnic, and racial backgrounds
  3. To develop in participating youth an understanding and appreciation of the Nation's natural environment and heritage.
  4. Employment is contingent on passing a background check.

Andersonville National Historic Site is located 10 miles south of Oglethorpe, GA and 10 miles northeast of Americus, GA on Georgia Highway 49. The site features the National Prisoner of War Museum, Andersonville National Cemetery and the site of the historic Civil War prison, Camp Sumter. ­Andersonville National Historic Site is a unit of the National Park System and serves as a memorial to all American prisoners of war.
