The Trial of Henry Wirz

Harper's Weekly

At the end of the Civil War, Captain Henry Wirz was arrested and prosecuted for his involvment at Andersonville. He was the most famous of the nearly 1,000 individuals to be prosecuted for violating the laws of war.

During his trial, more than 140 guards, Confederate officials, prisoners, civilians, and Federal officials testified about Wirz's management of the prison.
