The Alaskan earthquake occurred on Good Friday, March 27, 1964 at 5:36 pm local time and lasted for 3-5 minutes. It was the largest earthquake ever recorded in North American and the second largest ever in the world. The epicenter was located between Valdez and Anchorage near Prince William Sound.
