Staple Bend Tunnel Trail Open, Staple Bend Tunnel Close
The Staple Bend Tunnel is closed until further notice, but the Staple Bend Tunnel trail is open for use. Again, the tunnel, NOT THE TRAIL, is closed.
Please be aware that part of the public area loop has been closed until further notice as the park starts preparatory efforts for this summer's paving project on the Picnic Area Road.
Monetary donations to the park are also a meaningful way to show your support for Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site. Donations help the park maintain historic structures, support visitor services and public programs. You can make donations during your visit through the donation box located in the park visitor center. You can also send a check or money order made out to the National Park Service and sent to the park in care of the park Superintendent.
Did You Know?
The dam at South Fork, PA, that broke causing the Johnstown Flood of 1889 was originally built for the Mainline Canal System. The Allegheny Portage Railroad was an important part of the Mainline, so the stories are interconnected.
