There is no lodging available on Alcatraz Island. Lodging is available in the City of San Francisco, and the surrounding Bay Area. The ferry terminal is located near the Fisherman's Wharf area and is easily accessed from most hotels in the city using public transportation (visit the MUNI "New Riders" website to plan your route to Pier 33 on The Embarcadero). Did You Know?
The first West Coast lighthouse, activated in 1854 on Alcatraz Island, was rendered obsolete in the early 1900s when the U.S. Army built a new cellhouse blocking the lights view of the Golden Gate.
