Guy Martin Receives Beringia Award
Nome resident, Guy Martin, is the 2010 recipient of the David M. Hopkins Beringia Award. Guy’s wife, Blue, accepted the award on his behalf from Jeanette Pomrenke, superintendent of the Bering Land Bridge National Preserve, at the Kawerak Regional Conference held in Nome in April.
Martin was chosen for his contributions to the Beringia Program through his continuing involvement in the work of the Beringia Project Panel since it was established in 1997. Martin is also recognized for being an outstanding advocate and dedicated supporter of the Beringia Program and for helping it to advance its mission through personal assistance, conveying knowledge, and inspiring and mentoring Native people of the Bering Strait region.
