Okay, now it's time for a change in viewpoint. The people you will represent at the Policy Symposium are Native Elders and younger Alaska Natives who have lived in the area all of their lives, using the land in many different ways; and, Euro-Americans, some born in Alaska, some who have moved there and many who have worked within Gates of the Arctic and for the Park Service.

Some of the people are students, teachers, park administrators, miners, hunters or guides. All of the people have different viewpoints and understandings when they hear the word "wilderness." You will learn about their lives in the past and in the present. You will try to understand what the land means to them so your recommendation in the symposium takes their ideas and needs into consideration.
