| Founded in August 1784 by Grigorii Shelikhov, Three Saints Bay settlement was the first Russian colony in America and served as a base for the exploration and eventual settlement of other stations. In 1792, the colony moved to Kodiak, and this settlement was destroyed. The site also represents the Three Saints phase of the Kachemak tradition, a late prehistoric culture on Kodiak Island. | |||||||||
