| Located
in southwest Alaska on the shore of Lake Clark, Kijik Archeological District
is comprised of the surface remains of Dena'ina Athabaskan Indian settlements
dating from pre-European contact to the abandonment of Kijik village around
1910. The sites making up the district comprise the largest concentration
of Dena'ina sites in Southwest Alaska. These sites provide an incomparable
opportunity to recognize and study complex Athabaskan settlements within
a limited geographical area. New sites at Kijik, recently documented by NPS staff, may require expansion of the NHL boundaries. |
