Photographer George Linn maintained a studio on Lookout Mountain, photographing thousands of individuals as they posed on Umbrella Rock. This image looking off the mountain in 1902 shows Moccasin Bend before any land was removed from its toe.
Though not dated the image was most likely taken between 1895 and 1898. The image was donated to the park from the collection of the Museum of St. Albans in the United Kingdom. The photograph was marked with only "2nd Minnesota Battery."
Union Brigadier General William H. Lytle was mortally wounded about noon, September 20, 1863 during the Battle of Chickamauga. This circa 1900 photograph show the shell pyramid placed to mark the spot where Lytle was wounded.
Photograph of the construction of the Wilder Brigade Monument (Wilder Tower.) The photograph is dated 10 am, March 30, 1899. Writing on the photograph notes that at this point construction had reached 60 feet.
