Cowpens National Battlefield Celebrates Women`s History Month on Saturday, March 22 with Presentations and Book Signings

On Saturday, March 22, Cowpens National Battlefield will celebrate Women`s History Month with four authors discussing the role of women in the Revolutionary War.  This event is free!

At 10:30 a.m., authors Sheila Ingle (Courageous Kate), Christine Swager (Black Crows and White Cockades), and Suzanne Adair (Paper Woman) will have a panel discussion on “In the Army and at Home:  Women and Children of the Revolution.”  Following their talk, they will sign copies of their books.  Then at 2:00 p.m., Bert Dunkerly will give a talk about his newest book, Women of the Revolution: Bravery and Sacrifice on the Southern Battlefields.  He will discuss the role of women in the backcountry during the Revolutionary War.  Following his talk, he will also sign his books.

Cowpens Chief Ranger, Kathy McKay, states, "While we do not have definitive proof that any women served in the Battle of Cowpens, we are proud to present a panel of authors to talk about the variety of activities that women participated in during the Revolutionary War period." 

Cowpens National Battlefield protects and preserves the historic Revolutionary War Battlefield where American General Daniel Morgan defeated the British forces led by Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton on January 17, 1781.  The park is located 3 miles east of Chesnee, SC and 10 west of Gaffney, SC on SC Highway 11.  For more information, call (864) 461-2828.
