Summary: Join a park ranger to discover the beautiful and diverse botanical wonders living in the Chattahoochee River corridor. Discover scenic trails while learning about an array of wildflower and fern species.

Details:

Join the Georgia Botanical Society and National Park Service naturalist for a look at spring wildflowers as you hike to the top of Overlook Ridge where you will enjoy the grand view above Devil's Race Course Shoals. We will then take Cabin Creek Trail past Civil War gun emplacements through a beautiful forest along Cabin Creek. We will travel above rock cliffs, through mature oak-hickory forest, mesic ravine forest, and floodplain forest. Our hike will take us over and past extraordinary rock outcrops and formations influenced by the Brevard Fault, which runs through the unit. We will see beautiful spring wildflowers, ferns, shrubs, and perhaps a salamander or two.

Dress for the weather; wear very comfortable hiking shoes and dress in layers so that you can adjust to changes in the temperature and your activity level. Don't forget drinking water, binoculars, hand lens, notebook, and camera!

Note: The $3 daily park entrance fee is waived in celebration of National Park Week.
