Indian Sacred Sites and NPS

Executive Order 13007, Indian Sacred Sites, signed in 1996, directs Federal land managing agencies
  • to accommodate access to and ceremonial use of sacred sites located on public lands to Indian religious practitioners.
  • to avoid adversely affecting the physical integrity of such sacred sites, and
  • to develop and implement procedures for the purposes of carrying out this executive order
  • to identify changes needed to accommodate access and ceremonial use or to avoid adversely affecting sacred sites, and
  • procedures for consultation with appropriate Indian tribes and religious leaders and the resolution of dispures relating to agency action on Federal lands that may adversely affect access to, ceremonial use of, or the physical integrity of sacred sites.
