Agate Fossil Beds National Monument is in the process of writing a General Management Plan and a Long Range Interpretive Plan. These documents help with the management of the park.

James Cook raised horses as well as cattle on the Agate Springs Ranch.

Grasses that make up the mixed grass prairie are excellent for grazing cattle. However, with the low annual rainfall the carrying capacity is 25 acres for one cow and calf. This makes it necessary for ranches in this area to be fairly large. More...
