Parks as Classrooms
We encourage teachers to bring their students to Agate Fossil Beds for a field trip. This is where the Miocene fossils were found. Where James Cook ranched. Where James Cook met with the paleontologists and Red Cloud, other Lakota Sioux and Northern Cheyenne friends. Inside talks and guided hikes are offered. Call the park at 308-668-2211 to schedule a field trip.
Rangers from Agate Fossil Beds are available to visit classrooms in the area. Subjects include Miocene Mammals, Historic excavations at the Agate Fossil Hills, American Indian uses of the buffalo and other natural items, and Paleo Kits-a hands-on activity. Call 308-668-2211 or 308-436-9760 to schedule a visit from a ranger.
