African Burial Ground will be closed on Saturday, June 2, 2012
On June 2, 2012, the Memorial and Visitor Center of the African Burial Ground (entire park site) will be closed due to maintenance work scheduled by GSA. The Memorial will re-open on Sunday, June 3, 2012, and the Visitor Center on Tuesday, June 5, 2012.

The multimedia section of the website shares interesting aspects of the park with you through audio and video presentations. "Westward Bound," a unique multimedia presentation conducted at our visitor center concluded in January; The complementary website can be found at the following link. The second part of this exhibition, which will debut in early March and focuses on sacred body art from the Omo culture of Africa can be previewed online at the following link.

Did You Know?
The ancestral remains of 419 individuals, which were removed in 1991 and taken to Howard University for scientific study, were reinterred at the African Burial Ground Memorial Site on October 4, 2003. Each year, October 4 is a day of remembrance and celebration at the African Burial Ground. More...
