In a letter dated August 11, 1777, John Adams wrote to his wife, Abigail, "…upon examining the Biography of illustrious Men, you will generally find some Female about them in the Relation of Mother or Wife or Sister, to whose Instigation, a great Part of their Merit is to be ascribed."He continued, "I wish some of our great Men had such Wives.By the account in your last Letter, it seems the Women in Boston begin to think themselves able to serve their Country."

Second First Lady Abigail Adams and her daughter-in-law Sixth First Lady Louisa Catherine Adams, both mothers, wives, and sisters were "such wives" and served their country as "domestic Patriots," First Ladies, and Founding Mothers.Join Abigail Adams (Patricia Bridgman) and Louisa Catherine Adams (Judy Bernstein) at the Carriage House on Sunday, May 11, 2014 and learn how these intrepid and ground-breaking women of the 18th century continue to influence and inspire men, and women, of the 21st century.

Adams National Historical Park, a unit of the National Park Service, is pleased to announce that tours of the historic homes including the birthplace homes of John and John Quincy Adams, the Old House at "Peace field," and the Stone Library will be FREE for Mothers, Wives, and Sisters all day on Mother's Day.Tickets are issued on a first-come, first-served basis and may be obtained at the Visitor Center (1250 Hancock Street) or at the Carriage House (135 Adams Street).
