Acadia National Park
Seasonal (Winter) Closures

Although Acadia National Park is open all year, some roads and facilities are closed in the winter:

  • From December 1 through April 14, most of the Park Loop Road, including the road to Cadillac Mountain, is closed. Weather conditions may require closing the road earlier in the fall or delay opening in the spring. Two short sections of the Park Loop Road remain open all year; visit Road Closures for details.
  • Unpaved roads are closed from November 15 through May 14; visit Road Closures for details.
  • The visitor center is closed from November 1 through April 14. During this time information is available at park headquarters on Route 233.
  • Seawall Campground and some picnic areas and restrooms are also closed.
  • Blackwoods Campground remains open for primitive camping only from December 1 through March 31. The campground entrance road is closed to automobiles during this time period; campers are required to hike in from the campground entrance. For more information, see Blackwoods Campground.

Occasionally other facilities such as trails may be closed temporarily due to hazardous conditions or other factors. Trail closures are in place each year (beginning in February and March) to protect nesting birds.
