Visitor Services Project
In 1998, the National Park Service and the University of Idaho conducted a general visitor study in Acadia National Park. We asked questions of a representative sample of park visitors - about themselves, their visit to the park, and several current issues such as public transportation and park fees. A similar study was conducted in 2009, addressing some new transportation issues and park interpretive programs; results should be available in 2010. Similar studies for many national parks are available through the University of Idaho.
Did You Know?
Acadia National Park's carriage road system, built by John D. Rockefeller Jr., has been called “the finest example of broken stone roads designed for horse-drawn vehicles still extant in America.” Today, you can hike or bike 45 miles of these scenic carriage roads in the park.
