Acadia National Park
Curriculum-Based Programs - Third Grade

The education staff offers two programs for third-grade students:

Carriage Road Explorers (Fall)
Who built Acadia’s historic carriage road system? Why were these stone roads and bridges built and how? Why and how does the National Park Service preserve them? Travel by horse-drawn carriage or on foot as you hear about the people who played a part in developing this unique park resource. The park provides classroom copies of Exploring the Carriage Roads with embroidered patches. Cost: The walk is free. The ride is $9 per student, payable by cash or check to Wildwood Stables.

What Do Rangers Do and Junior Ranger Day (Spring)
A one-hour, in-class presentation about the mission of the National Park Service and the different jobs of the people who work in the park. This is part of the student requirements to become a junior ranger, along with workbook activities and Junior Ranger Day in the park. During Junior Ranger Day, students take the junior ranger pledge and participate in a park clean-up and resource project. Free.

CCC members take a break from their work to admire the view along the ocean.
