Learning from Stories

If you are accessing the digital version of this lesson, you must complete the following steps in addition to those steps listed in the lesson plan.

Preparation:

To copy the audio file of The Little Spark and the Little Mouse to a CD so that it can be played in a CD player, please follow these suggestions:

1. Download the mp3 file of the The Little Spark and the Little Mouse before you begin the CD writing process. (You may also wish to download the mp3 files of the 2002 Speech Made by Governor Doyle and the 1887 Speech Made by Lewis Mitchell for Lesson 9. Then, all three files can be copied to the same CD.) When you click on the links to the sound files you may be asked to save or play the file depending on what type of web browser you are using. If not and the file starts playing automatically, try right-clicking on the link and selecting "Save target as..." in order to save the file.

2. Do not use a rewriteable CD. (This means using a CD that is labeled as a CD-R, not a CD-RW. Rewriteable CDs may not be playable in standard CD players though they will play on a computer's CD-ROM. To ensure that the CD can be used in as many devices as possible, use a CD-R.)

3. When using your CD authoring software, choose the option that creates a music CD. (A music CD has a much greater likelihood of being playable in different CD players than a data CD.)

4. When using your CD authoring software, select the option to finalize the CD. (This, too, will increase the chances that your CD will play in a standard CD player and not only a computer CD-ROM.)

5. Be sure to test your CD in the CD player you intend to use in class.
