Astronomy Night

Description: Join rangers and astronomers behind Grand Canyon Visitor Center for an evening of telescope viewing and laser-guided constellation talks under one the darkest night skies in the United States!

Time: Telescopes available anytime between 8:30 pm and 10 pm. Constellation talk begins at 8:45 pm.

Location: South Rim - Grand Canyon Visitor Center Theater (follow red rope lights)

Thursday, May 23rd

Full Moon Rise over Grand Canyon

Description: Join rangers and astronomers to watch the Sun set in the west at 7:34 pm, then turn to the east and watch the Full Moon rise over the Canyon at 8:15 pm! Rangers will be out at Mather Point with telescopes to point at the Moon and other early evening objects! This is an informal gathering to watch moonrise.

Time: Sunset is at 7:34 pm. Arrive half hour early. Moon rise is 8:15 pm.

Location: South Rim - Mather Point

Description: Learn about the science, mythology, and history of the constellations through a laser-guided constellation talk, all under one the darkest night skies in the United States!

June 1 - 8 - Grand Canyon Star Party

34th Annual Grand Canyon Star Party

Description: For eight nights in a row, explore with dozens of astronomers, peer through over 50 different telescopes, attend constellation talks, and more, at the 34th annual Grand Canyon Star Party! View details here.

Time: Every night June 1 through 8. Meet at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center. Theater talk starts at 8 pm. Limited capacity--arrive early to get a seat inside theater. Telescopes available behind visitor center from 8 pm - 11:30 pm. Constellation talks start at 9 pm, 9:30 pm, and 10 pm (meet behind visitor center in the telescope lot).
